GROUNDING MEDITATION: Two Hands, Sacred Work, Fierce and Gentle

GROUNDING MEDITATION: "Two Hands, Sacred Work"

Spiritual Feast – March 22, 2026

For the reader: Speak with steady warmth. Pause between sections. Let your voice embody both strength and gentleness. Approximately 5-6 minutes.

[Arrival]

Everything offered here is an invitation. Please engage in whatever way honors your needs. You are the authority on your own experience.

Let's begin by simply arriving. Notice where you are, the feeling of your body supported by what holds you, the temperature of the air, the quality of light or shadow around you.

If connecting with your body feels difficult today, you might notice sounds instead, near or far, constant or changing. Or simply the sense of being present in this moment, in this gathering.

There's no right way to be here. You're welcome exactly as you are.

[Finding your breath]

Now, if you're willing, bring awareness to your breath. Not changing it, just noticing. The rhythm of air moving in and moving out.

Perhaps you notice your chest rising and falling. Or your belly expanding and releasing. Or the sensation of breath at your nostrils: cool coming in, warm going out.

Your breath has been with you through everything. Every moment you've been fierce. Every moment you've been tender. Every time you've broken something that needed breaking. Every time you've mended something that needed care.

Breathe. Just breathe. This is enough.

[Noticing your hands]

We are going to be using the image of your hands today. If, in your body, your hands are not where the energies we are talking about live, I invite you to find another place in your body to reference. When you're ready, bring awareness to the parts of your body that are doing the work of “no” and the work of “yes” The work of removal and the work of care. For many people this will be your hands. Bring your awareness there now. How ever they are positioned right now: resting, folded, open, closed.

Notice the sensation in your hands. Warmth or coolness. Tingling or stillness. The feeling of skin against skin if they're touching, or air if they're not.

These are your hands. The hands that do your sacred work.

If you're comfortable, I invite you to place your hands somewhere on your body where you can feel them, perhaps on your heart, your belly, your thighs, your knees. Wherever feels right.

Feel the weight of them. The warmth of them. The reality of them.

These hands have broken things. These hands have mended things. They know how to do both.

[The hand that breaks]

Bring awareness to your right hand, or whichever part of your body that feels like your "breaking" hand. The hand that pushes away what harms. The hand that says "no" and "stop" and "enough."

This is your fierce hand. The hand that protects. The hand that sets boundaries. The hand that dismantles what needs dismantling.

Perhaps you can move your hand into the position that says "stop" or "this must end". Notice what shape feels right for that energy.

You might notice strength in this hand. Or fatigue from using it so much. Or fear about using it at all. Whatever you notice, let it be there.

This hand has sacred work to do. It breaks what harms. This is holy.

Breathe into this hand. Honor what it does. Thank it for its fierceness.

[The hand that mends]

Now bring awareness to your left hand, or whichever part of your body that feels like your "mending" hand. The hand that draws close what needs care. The hand that says "yes" and "come here" and "I've got you."

This is your tender hand. The hand that heals. The hand that holds. The hand that repairs what needs repairing.

Perhaps you can move your hand into the position that says "your are cared for" or "come in". What shape or motion shows this energy for you?

You might notice gentleness in this hand. Or exhaustion from using it so much. Or grief about what it can't fix. Whatever you notice, let it be there.

This hand has sacred work to do. It mends what sustains. This is holy.

Breathe into this hand. Honor what it does. Thank it for its tenderness.

[Two hands, one sacred work]

Now, with awareness of both hands, the fierce and the tender, the breaking and the mending—notice that they belong to the same body. They're both yours. They work together.

You don't have to choose. You never had to choose.

You can be fierce and tender. You can break and mend. You can say "no" with one hand and "yes" with the other. You can protect and nurture. You can resist and care.

This is not contradiction. This is wholeness.

If you'd like, you might bring your hands together, palm to palm, or hand holding hand. Feel them touching. Two hands. One body. One sacred work.

Both matter. Both are needed. Both are yours.

[Returning with both hands]

As we prepare to return, take one more breath into this awareness. You are both fierce and tender. You do the work of breaking and mending. You carry sacred work in your two hands.

When you're ready, begin to gently return to this space. Perhaps wiggle your fingers or shift in your seat. Notice the sounds around you. The presence of others in this gathering.

Slowly open your eyes if they were closed, or lift your gaze if it was lowered.

You are here. You are whole. You are ready.

Your two hands are ready for the sacred work ahead
